After submitting your application for admission, Unisa will assess your application base on the minimum academic or admission points score (APS). You may be offered a space for semester 1 of the 2026 academic year on bases of you meeting the academic admission requirements for your chosen qualification and the number of spaces available for the qualification for which you have applied.

Track UNISA Application Status 2026

Here is the procedure you need to know to check or track and understand your UNISA application status 2026:

  1. Go to www.unisa.ac.za on your chrome browser
  2. Click on myUnisa link at the top menu of UNISA homepage
  3. On myUnisa page, click on “Login to myAdmin“
  4. Enter your “Student Number” and Password to continue
  5. Click on the “Login” link to access “Unisa Student Status Portal“
  6. On the student portal, locate the status check link and click on it
  7. Enter your First-name and Surname in the space provided
  8. Select your Date of Birth and proceed to the next step
  9. Click on “Track Application Status” link to view the progress of your application

Please Note: Make sure you don’t forget your username and password or give them to anybody. You do this at your own rick. Be vigilant and wise. The student number will be the ID number you will be using throughout your study at the University of South Africa (UNISA).

UNISA Application Status 2026 Outcome

The following is the outcome of your application for admission to study at the University of South Africa (UNISA) for the 2026 academic year:

  • Application Submitted: Your application has been received by the University of South Africa (UNISA).
  • Application Approved: The University of South Africa (UNISA) has given you the opportunity to study with them for the 2025 academic cycle
  • Application Rejected: Unfortunately, your application to study at the University of South Africa (UNISA) was not successful.
  • Pending: The University of South Africa (UNISA) is still processing your application you have submitted.

Remember that applicants who do not qualify for admission will get feedback as soon as their applications are processed.

Submitting supporting documents

  • You have 10 days from the date of application to upload your compulsory supporting documents (the 10 days does not apply after the closing date for applications).
  • If your application is declined because it is incomplete (ie you did not upload all the supporting documents), you may re-apply for admission during the current application period and upload your compulsory supporting documents, provided that the application period is still open. Alternatively, you will need to wait for the next application period.

What happens next?

  • Successful application: Unisa will confirm this via e-mail and will also provide you with the contact details of a specific member of staff, normally your supervisor, within the relevant academic department. Please remember to register during the prescribed registration period.
  • Unsuccessful application: Unisa will inform you of this via e-mail and provide you with a reason why your application was unsuccessful. You may appeal the decision by sending an e-mail to MandD@unisa.ac.za The appeal submission must contain a motivation for the request and supporting documents. Please note that the following reasons are not grounds for an appeal: not uploading required supporting documents / lack of supervisory capacity / a department reaching its full capacity / the submitted research outline is not aligned to the departmental research focus areas / where departments do not have expertise in the area of the proposed research title / the research outline does not meet the departmental requirements / the proposed research area will not bring a unique contribution to the body of knowledge or applying for the wrong qualification.

If your application for admission was unsuccessful because you did not meet the minimum admission requirements, you may apply for admission via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), provided that you are 23 years of age or older with at least 5 years current and relevant work experience related to the qualification you wish to pursue. Prior learning should have been gained through one or more of the following means: research experience, workplace learning, information/non-formal learning, company/industry-based training, working with experts or life experience.
